The Movement.

Why it matters

The online world isn’t as real as it seems.

Filtered. Edited. A highlight reel; it’s the best of the best with the negatives left unspoken.

The Show Up Movement aims to exist in the real world celebrating real people and being proud of people for showing up.

It’s hard to define showing up, but when it’s happening, you feel it. Showing up is presence, it’s courage and it’s caring enough to take action. It can be the smallest of steps to the biggest of leaps, but showing up changes everything. It ripples and inspires.

Showing Up matters.

Our Mission

The Show Up Movement is here to celebrate people when they show up. We want to shout it from the rooftops, be your biggest cheerleader. If showing up makes ripples in the world around you, we want to turn that into waves. We believe that showing up matters, we believe people should be proud of showing up and we believe others will be inspired by these stories. Inspired enough to show up themselves.

What we do

A values-first fashion brand. Creating ethical clothing with designs that spark real conversations. Helping people to talk about things that are important. Cheerleading people for making a difference, for showing up, for doing something important. Inspiring others to show up, to make a difference themselves.

How we do it

The Show Up Movement will work with artists to design beautifully bold clothing. Each design will undeniably signify showing up. We want our supporters to love the designs as much as the message. We want people to wear our clothes with pride and we want you to talk to everyone who asks about it. Share your showing up story. Inspire others to show up too.

The Show Up Movement stories (Andrew and Emma)

Andrew volunteers at the local animal shelter, he spends a few hours a week walking the dogs, cuddling the cats, showing people around and keeping everything clean. One day, as Andrew is showing a family around the shelter, he begins passionately and excitedly talking about how rewarding the volunteering is, how he feels like he’s making a difference in these animals’ lives, it feels like he’s really showing up. The teenage daughter on the tour listens intently, smiling and is inspired to volunteer too. It’s not long until she’s working a shift with Andrew, showing a family round the shelter herself.

Andrew finds the show up movement online and the message resonates with him, he wants to inspire others, to create waves, to expand The Movement. Andrew buys one of our T-shirts. A bold design, an abstract paw print encased in a heart, the message clear, the design emotive.

Andrew starts to realise that whenever he wears this T-shirt, the strong design sparks conversation, people often ask what The Movement is all about, and Andrew tells his show up story. Some days, people come into the shelter because they were inspired to visit and rehome their family pet after speaking to Andrew.

One day, Andrew’s phone pinged - A selfie from his dad. His dad had been standing outside the local homeless shelter with the words “If Andrew can do it, I can too”.

Showing up is contagious, it spreads in the most beautiful of ways.

Emma’s idea of a perfect lunch break is a coffee and sandwich from a vendor at a great local green space, just a few minutes walk from the office. It was a regular Monday afternoon and Emma sat down on her usual bench to enjoy the sunshine and drink her coffee. As she finished, she walked to the bin to put her sandwich wrapper in, she noticed that there was another sandwich wrapper on the floor, right next to the bin. Emma picked it up and threw them both away. Emma didn’t need to pick up someone else’s rubbish, but she did it anyway, it wasn’t a huge action, but it made her feel good for the rest of the day. Emma went back on Wednesday that week, and while throwing away her wrapper, she also picked up an empty can, a dropped chocolate wrapper and a disposable coffee cup.

3 weeks later, Emma can be found in the park, with a litter picker and bag, she spends 20-30 minutes a day keeping the busy city park clean. It brings her day a little more purpose.

Every Friday, a small child. No older than 5 is brought to the park by her Grandparents, she watches Emma intently as she picks up litter. This relationship has blossomed to the point they both look forward to seeing each other, and each week, Emma, the little girl and the Grandparents can be seen picking up litter, brushing leaves from the pathways and cleaning a park bench.

Emma talks fondly of this small interaction. She smiles, she knows she’s inspired this family to do good and imparted something amazing.

Emma’s scrolling Instagram one day, stumbles across The Show Up Movement, and the Natural Range resonates with her. She buys a T-Shirt with an awesome garden scene, leaves, trees and families. She wears it proudly, knowing that she has her own show up story and more often than not, she has the opportunity to share her story of  her  little lunchtime friend.

Showing up matters, it inspires, and it’s important. Join The Show Up Movement.

*These stories are illustrative. They represent the impact we are aspiring for.

The Fundamentals.

Our Values

Show up - When you can, when opportunity strikes, Show Up, for yourself, for others or for the planet.

Be authentic - Present the real you, don’t hide the darker sides, be strong, be honest and be yourself.

Care - Give a damn about the world, be passionate, be vocal and stand up for your beliefs.

The Pillars

Awesome designs, ethically printed on T-shirts, aligned to our showing up pillars.

The Personal Range - Are you working on yourself right now? Are you recovering, flourishing, goal setting, showing up and working hard? Then this is the range that represents you.

The Community Range - Are you out there, showing up for other people? Are you volunteering, are you mentoring, are you being the best friend you can be or maybe you’re the family member everyone turns to. You’re dependable, you’re showing up selflessly, this is the range for you.

The Natural Range - Do you care enough to take action? Do you use that action for the good of the planet? Maybe you’re the one who picks up litter even though you didn’t drop it. Maybe you’re the one who joins beach clean-up activities, maybe you live alongside the earth as minimally and environmentally conscious as you can. This is the range for you.

Each pillar will be aligned with a charity that will receive a monetary donation for each item sold.

We’re not fast fashion, if you no longer want your shirt, give it back. If it’s wearable, we’ll donate it to people in need, if it’s not, we’ll ensure it’s recycled properly. Any T-shirt sent back will receive a 10% discount on a future order.

Our Social Media Promise

Social Media will be essential in building this movement, we want to reach and inspire as many people as we can. But spending hours per day on social media goes against everything we’re trying to build.

We will only post when we have something to say

We will post your Show Up Stories

We will celebrate you

We will not post multiple times a day (or even week)

We will not post meaningless content simply to comply with an algorithm

We will not post for the sake of being present online

We would rather be present in the real world, we’d rather you were present in the real world too.

The Branding.

Clothing logo

The artist’s designs on the clothing are the most important part, our logo is simply a signpost for people to join in. The logo is simple, clear, and subtle.

On our clothing, the logo will be black or white, depending on the clothing colour. It will always be in capital letters. The wording ‘Show Up’ will be in Ambroise Std, Extra Bold. The word ‘Movement’ will be in Brother 1816, Regular. The separator between the words will be changeable, the aim is to bring some cohesion between the logo and the design, and as such, the line will pick out a key colour from the design.

See our brand page for full details.

Brand Colours

To ensure cohesion between our social media accounts and physical branding (excluding clothing designs), will have assigned a colour to each of the pillars.

Ocean - #346F8F  - Representing the personal range

Sand - #F1BF61 - Representing the community range

Rust - #BE846C - Representing the natural rang

Other colours that we’ll use on our social accounts

Stone - #404241 - in place of black

Dust - #F7F3E8  - in place of white

Brand Typography

Where appropriate, we will mirror the clothing logo typefaces. Where bulk copy is needed, we’ll use Montserrat. A normal weighting for headings, a light weight for copy.

The Design Brief.

Showing up is hard to define, but it’s quickly felt. Showing up can be done in nearly an infinite number of ways and anyone can do it. The idea of the clothing designs is to create a ‘feeling’ of showing up, to embody the concept of showing up, whether that’s showing up for yourself (the personal range), showing up for others (the community range) or showing up for the environment (the natural range).

Design constraints

As long as it the image can fit on the back on the clothing and provided it fits into the concept above, there are no design constraints, the collaboration with artists is done because the artists are great at what they do, we want their style to come through, we want a unique, almost eclectic range of designs that fit into the 3 ranges. Everyone can show up, everyone can inspire others to do the same, we can all show up a little more.

Not all fashion choices are the same. Our customers will be bonded by the concept of showing up, not by a singular design choice.

The design element of the clothing ranges is what sets us apart from the rest. We’re working with true designers, to bring their visions to life and to print.

Target Audience

We aim to appeal to a  vast audience. People who are proud to show up, people who will speak up or people who aspire to show up and be seen. First and foremost, The Show Up Movement is a concept, it’s a movement in the truest sense of the word, the fashion aspect comes in second. We want people to believe in us, understand what we’re trying to achieve, and then want to join us by wearing our brand. This is why we will have a wide range and variety of designs, so people can make their own choices about the pillars they align to and the design they want to wear.

Our audience is either:

  • A show-er-upper:

    • People who are brave enough to be real, be emotional and be prepared to share their show up story. People that believe in the power of showing up and how it can have a positive impact on those around you.

  • A not yet show-er-upper:

    • Someone who has either seen us online, or seen our brand in the wild,  heard a show up story and is inspired and motivated.  They’ve navigated to the website, picked a pillar that speaks to them and have pledged to show up.

The Online Approach.

Branding

We will use the brand colours, which will be used according to the range being promoted.

We will post Show-Up Stories as carousels, duotone style, real photos as background. No gimmicks, just a real image and a real story.

We will post our artist designs with T-shirt mockups..

Our artists will get full credit whenever their artwork is referenced.

We will use the hashtags #theshowupmovement and #showup

We will have monthly features where we share our supporters Showing Up Stories, we will send freebies to anyone featured.

The Online Store.

Website - www.theshowupmovement.co.uk

A basic, no nonsense website that has show up stories, our branding and an online store. The brand colours will be aligned with the social media presence, using the same coloured separator to represent each range.

The Artist Contract.

A contract between The Show Up Movement and the artists can be found here. This is a public document outlines how we’ll be working with artists, and how we’re protecting their artwork. We’re fully transparent about the process.

The artist retains full control of their artwork, The Show Up Movement will use it only as agreed. The artist reserves the right to ask for their work to be removed from The Movement at any time. In this instance, posts may be archived and online sales will no longer be available. Any excess stock, printed, will not be sold, but may be given to local charities as per our operating mode.

Artists will receive a £5 commission fper T-shirt sold. This arrangement will remain in place indefinitely.

We hope that our artists would like to spread the word of our collaboration and The Movement but it’s not something we mandate.

We will be present, honest and open from the first time we talk.

The Charities.

A fundamental part of The Show Up Movement is the charity support we provide. The simple act of buying an item of clothing is showing Up, we will be supporting charities as part of our operation. The monthly donation will be fully transparent. We have chosen a charity that aligns to each of our pillars, and we will shout about our charity work as much as we can.

YoungMinds: To make sure all young people get the mental health support they need, when they need it, no matter what.

GoodGym: GoodGym helps you get fit by doing good. A group of runners, walkers, and cyclists who combine regular exercise with helping our communities.

Keep Britain Tidy - Keep Britain Tidy is the country’s leading anti-litter charity. They are the experts on litter, fly-tipping and dog fouling, as well as running the country’s awards programmes for parks and beaches and the biggest environmental education programme in schools
